Texas A&M Sweeps Titles for the Third Time!

How'bout those Aggies? In thrilling fashion, Texas A&M won both the men's and women's NCAA Outdoor titles for the third year in a row.

"I'm kind of speechless," said A&M Head Coach Pat Henry. "This is an unbelievable victory by both of our groups. Everybody thinks it comes down to Jessica Beard and on that leg it came down to Jessica. But there were a lot of people contributing today with both relays.

"Our men stayed calm and did what they needed to do. They picked up points through out the day and then won the final relay. It's a team effort, which doesn't start with just first place points, but includes everybody from each of the four days here.

"It's a tremendous group of young people who did some things I don't think they could do at times this weekend. But they are big believers. During our meeting this morning they all looked at each other and left the room knowing what needed to be done. They lined up today and did some things that put us in a position to win."

A&M won both 4x400 relays – the men had to win – to earn their third titles in exciting, come-from-behind fashion. Jessica Beard’s incredible 49.16 anchor brought the team way back to overtake Auburn. Tabarie Henry’s brave anchor leg brought the men’s title race literally down to the final steps.

NCAA report - heading into the final day

With one day left in Des Moines, the NCAA DI Championships are turning into a furious fight for the  team titles. Can the Texas A&M men and women three-peat?

Oregon, who has not won since 1985, leads the women's cometition with 33 points - 5 more than Oklahoma. Texas A&M (23) and Texas (21) are not far behind.

Highlighting the day for Texas schools was the big 400 win by A&M's Jessica Beard.

"I wanted to get 10 points for my team," Beard said. "Of course I could have run faster, but whatever time it takes for me to be in first place and score 10 points is what I'll take. I'm really thankful. It was the calmest I've been for a final. I'm just really happy that the race turned out the way it did. Hopefully we are still in it for the team championship."

Florida State leads the men's side with 29 points on the strength of Ngonidzashe Makusha's NCAA record 10.89 in the 100 and 27-6¾ long jump win. Virginia Tech and Florida -- who are trying to repeat their indoor win -- are a point back. Texas Tech (24) and Texas A&M (22) are also within striking distance.

CCCAT Summer Clinic Begins Next Week

The Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas Summer Clinic will be held June 15-16 in Austin. If you're a XC coach, this is THE event of the year to learn and network with other coaches from across the state. 

This year's conference will be held at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center at the University of Texas.

This year's speakers include Brad Hudson. Tom Kennedy, Dave Hartman, and Will Reid along with a Championship Coaches' Panel Discussion.

A golf tournament will be held on Tuesday, June 14 with the Hall of Fame Induction on June 15 followed by the M-F Athletic Coaches Social.
